First Blog – World Down Syndrome Day

I’ve decided to start blogging again. I tried back in 2016, when I was in the process of transferring from Bowling Green State University to Southern New Hampshire University to study Digital Photography through their online program. I told myself I would give it a try again and to challenge myself.

I wanted to write about something very close to my heart. March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. Many opportunities have opened up for me these past couple years and I wanted to share them. When I was in High School I volunteered for the iCanBike program as a spotter. I helped individuals learn how to ride a two-wheel bike independently. Last summer I was able to volunteer my time as a photographer for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio(DSACO). I took pictures of families for the 2018 Faces in the community Calendar. I met so many amazing families and enjoyed photographing each and every one of them! I will be volunteering again this summer and I am so excited. Every year my family and I participate in the Columbus Buddy Walk. This is such a fun day for everyone to come together, raise money, to celebrate and support the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio.

DSACO has so many opportunities and they put together a lot of different events. There are many different ways you yourself can get involved, from participating in events to volunteering. I would recommend taking the time to check out their website and learn more about what they do and what they are all about. http://dsaco.net/

Recently I took photos of Ella who just turned one! The theme of her photoshoot was Down Syndrome Awareness, which I thought was awesome! Ella made it so easy for me to capture her beautiful personality with all of the smiles she gave me….. Although, I’m not sure if I would have gotten any out of her without her two older sisters help. Her tutu and headband were both just perfect for this photoshoot! I know for a fact that Ella enjoyed digging into her own cupcake! Check out a few of the adorable photos from her one-year photo session.

I also wanted to share a couple of photos that I took of my nephew this past summer for the 2018 Faces in the Community Calendar!
